In the Philippines, tropical cyclone is the umbrella term PAGASA uses before classifying a system by wind strength: tropical depression, tropical storm, severe tropical storm, typhoon, or super typhoon. The Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) sees an average of roughly 20 tropical cyclones a year, of which about 8 to 9 make landfall.
