The province faces the Moro Gulf and borders the Sarangani province to the west. Davao Occidental is known for the Barracuda Lake in Jose Abad Santos municipality, an inland saltwater lake, and for the extensive Rafols Integrated Development Project. The province has significant indigenous Manobo, Kalagan, and Bagobo communities. Fishing and agriculture including banana, rice, and rubber farming are the primary economic activities.
